At Clemens, we are dedicated to developing a more sustainable future. To that end, we promote principles of water-wise landscaping. Creative design can offer alternatives to high water use landscapes that are at once satisfying and responsible.

Xeriscape and Permaculture are terms that are being used with increasing regularity and yet are little understood. Xeriscape stems from the Greek word meaning dry, that has been developed into a set of seven principals that provide direction for reducing water use in the landscape. It is no coincidence that the first principal is Planning and Design. Our designers know how to take advantage of natural systems; select bountiful, low-water-plants, and design appropriate and efficient irrigation systems, all principals of the xeriscape program.

Permaculture is devoted to designing sustainable human settlements and preserving and extending natural systems. Respect for life and responsibility for our future existence are the basic tenets.

At Clemens, we integrate principles of permaculture in our projects. Low impact on this high-desert environment includes using less water and recycling water for irrigation, using organic fertilizers and insecticides, developing wildlife habitats, and appropriate planting.

Our commitment to preserving and enhancing our environment means combining xeriscape and permaculture principals into our designs. We have many creative ideas for developing inviting spaces not reliant on water-thirsty plants. Water efficiency and the conservative use of natural resources have a positive effect on the quality of life.
